Newport is a city and unitary authority in south-east Wales. Newport is the third largest city in Wales.

Newport is one of the five local authorities in the Education Achievement Service (EAS) for South East Wales.

The school population is just under 25,000 pupils (sixth largest in Wales) and the authority has responsibility for 53 schools. 

There are 42 primary schools with an average size of 347, which is the largest average size for primary schools in Wales. These range from the new school Glan Llyn with 144 pupils to Glan Usk Primary with over 655 pupils. 

There are nine secondary schools with an average size of 1113 pupils—all of the secondary schools have sixth forms.

There are no through schools in Newport.

There are two special schools both of which have post-16 provision.

There are three Welsh medium primary schools and one Welsh medium secondary school in Newport.
