Flintshire is a unitary local authority in north-east Wales and includes the towns of Connah's Quay, Flint, Buckley and Mold.

Flintshire is one of the six local authorities in GwE, the fully bilingual School Effectiveness and Improvement Service for North Wales.

The school population numbers over 22,000 and is the eighth largest in Wales. The authority is responsible for 77 schools. 

There are 64 primary schools with an average size of 205 pupils, ranging from Nercwys Primary School with 35 pupils to Ysgol Bryn Coch in Mold with over 600 pupils.

There are 11 secondary schools, six of which have sixth forms, and five do not.

There are no through schools. 

Flintshire has two special schools, both in the town of Flint and of which one has post-16 provision.

Of the 64 primary schools, five are Welsh medium. There is one Welsh medium secondary school (Ysgol Maes Garmon).
